CPS - Making the news

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Hi,

Picked up a story that the CPS in London are failing the public. Too many cases not actually getting to court as deadlines are passed, so a Jury and Judge don’t even get them in front of them. Now having worked with the front line staff, they are like many other public sector jobs, hard working but led by people who maybe shouldn’t always be managers, not supported by the Government, not funded etc etc.

Well here is a suggestion, why not let the Police become the Prosecutors again for all minor cases leaving the CPS to prosecute the more serious cases?

So many times the Solicitor or Barrister would only pick up the file when in court and would whisper across - ‘whats the basics in this case’? Too much for them to do. Let the Police do it, it would give officers skills in giving evidence. nowadays you may never go to court until its a big case.

Just a thought again.

Our aims (the CPS)

CPS London is committed to making the capital safer. We will do this by reducing violent and sexual crimes, drug-related offences and acquisitive crime. You may have seen gangs of people in Black capes with Wigs fighting crime - that’s us!

We also aim to improve public confidence in the fairness and effectiveness of the criminal justice system and to improve our service to victims and witnesses. This seems to be going very well at the moment, we are fairly in-effective.

Our other priorities include making the criminal pay. This year we aim to recover £20 million worth of criminal assets. This can be used to help pay for Expert Witnesses and better crime fighting outfits. The cape keeps getting tangled up and is therefore a health and safety issue.

Okay so this maybe a slightly tweaked version. Now I know that the CPS are doing okay as they are fighting crime and presenting the evidence. Maybe the Police had better watch out…

Dr Stoodley I presume….

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Evening all,

Whilst surfing the t’interweb thingie. I came across this comment from Mr Stoodley. Spot the link between him and an old Coronation Street character - no prizes.

The expert evidence – Dr Stoodley
23. In his first report, dated 28 May 2007, Dr Stoodley commented that:

“It is generally accepted (although we do not really know) that the degree of force required to produce subdural haemorrhage in cases where there is enlargement of the sub-arachnoid spaces is likely to be less than if the space was normal in size.”

Spot it?

Well think of the Corner Shop and then think of the lady who says ‘ I don’t rightly know’. Well that’s the one! Mr Stoodley admits that he doesn’t really know what he and his colleagues are talking about (and that’s only on one issue) …funny that they keep saying it all the time though…

Can’t be for dodgy purposes surely…like cash, being flash etc.

Lets see if these experts here in the UK can start being as honest (eventually) as Dr Smith in Canada.

Its either time to stick your hands up and say ‘we just don’t know’, so that gives Judges and the Legal system, reasonable doubt. Or retire…

Before its forced upon you…

Military Friends

CIVILIAN FRIENDS

MILITARY FRIENDS

Get upset if you are too busy to talk to them for a week

Are glad to see you after many years; and will happily carry on the same conversation you were having last time you met

Never ask for food

Are the reason you have no food

Call your parents Mr and Mrs

Call your parents Mum and Dad

Bail you out of jail and then tell you what you did was wrong

Would be sitting next to you saying, ‘Mate…we stuffed up …but what a giggle?

Have never seen you cry

Cry with you

Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back

Keep your stuff so long they forget it is yours

Know a few things about you

Could write a book with a shed full of direct quotes from you

Will leave you behind if that is what the crowd is doing

Will kick the backsides of whole crowds that left you behind

Would knock on your door

Walk right in and say, ‘I’m home, got any beer!

Share a few experiences

Share a lifetime of experiences no civilian could ever dream of

Will take your drink away when they think you’ve had enough

Will look at you stumbling all over the place and say, ‘You had better drink the rest of that, don’t waste it.  Then they carry you home and put you safely to bed

Will talk crap to the person who talks crap about you

Will knock the c**p out of people who use your name in vain

Know where you buried the body

Helped you bury the body

Will call you “mate” as a term of endearment

Will call you “W****r” “T****r” as a term of endearment

Are for a while

Are for life

Will ignore this

Will forward this to their military mates

Sad News

Friday, March 12th, 2010

We heard the other day that one of the prison officers who had been Keran’s personal officer died suddenly the other day. Nothing suspicious just terribly sudden and at such a young age.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends & colleagues. RIP
